After the survey of the historic aspect of Rhédae it appears incontestable that this city was built in the same way as Carcassonne, proving the same stroke its Wisigothique origin. The two distinct parts understood therefore, a citadel girt on of fortifications and in against-low a low city where was installed the population. .
Before the surface that the tray of Rennes-Le-Château presents, one can, indeed, to suppose that Rhédae had to have an almost identical importance to the one of Carcassonne |
|
Although some want to see Rhédae again absolutely in another place, it is important to take in account that a few years ago, an aerial photograph revealed the traces of an important construction on the plain to the foot of the Rennes-Le-Château village.
This construction has the shape of a big dimension church or even of a mausoleum and shape composed of several sets of circles. One can also see, in the part of the main circle and in its center, three particular prints that don't seem to be able to be the trace of pillars. |
|
|
These three traces nearly have the shape of ogival door, but calm on soil. It is well obvious that these are not doors! But in this case before what we find ourselves?
A theory, to which I abound, affirm that the three prints would be those let by three tombs of big importances. On the one hand as for their size, on the other hand as for the importance of the characters being buried there.
In his last book, author Henry Lincoln presents us the churches of the island of Bornholm. A drawing representing one of them, must attract all our attention. Their structure is similar to the print of the one of the Rennes-Le-Château tray. Luck or coincidence? |
On the aerial photograph of Rennes-Le-Château where one sees this print, one notices, in top on the left, the traces of another square shape construction. What does one notice close to the churches of Bornholm? The same thing! Luck or coincidence?
Without letting itself go to say that the architects of the destroyed church and buried of Rennes-Le-Château are also the authors of those of Bornholm, it is necessary to admit that the concordances are disturbing. Rhedae in the museum of Rennes-Le-Château held by the association, a drawing presents us the shape possible of this church and one can notice its resemblance with those of Bornholm.
This demonstration allows me, to think that the traces seen of plane are well those of a religious building of notorious importance.
Now try to understand what is the three traces that could be three tombs. The very presence of a church of this dimension in Rhédae denotes the importance of the city. I would not be going as far as saying, as Louis Fédié made it, that she sheltered living thirty-miles, but on the other hand, I think that she had the importance of the Carcassonne of its time.
It is therefore logical and likely that the church of the city welcomes the tombs of the Lords of the place within. Its three tombs are, without a doubt, those of the Lords of Rhédae.
Of the low city that surrounded the church, we can say that currently it doesn't remain more anything. It is not the case of the citadel that, gradually, gave birth in the village of Rennes-Le-Château. Only, the castle of the Hautpouls, that gave its name in the present village, and the Saint-Marie-Madeleine church, attest the seniority of the village.
This church has been transformed a lot by Bérenger Saunière and it is therefore difficult to us to know its previous aspect. On the other hand its outside aspect has, so to speak, been not modified.
At the time of one of my visits on Rennes-Le-Château, I had the big pleasure to meet M. Marrot, secretary of the association of Rhédae, with that an interesting strong discussion took place. He made me notice that the Saint-Marie-Madeleine church was signalled, for the one that knew the symbolic, as being an important church. This remark astonished me a lot, until M. Marrot made me notice an architectural point of the walls of the building. More or less to mid-height, one can notice several rows of clearer hue stones than the rest of the walls of the church.
This ceinturage, in architecture, names itself one LITRE
This litre doesn't appear on all religious buildings, but only on those that have a royal goal or in which an important character has been buried.
Must we see, in the precision of these details, a tie with the discovery of a tomb by Bérenger Saunière September 21, 1891 and who seems have jostle his life?
In summary, we can regret, understandably, that no official excavations, in a setting of historic and archaeological survey, are to achieve on the tray to the foot of Rennes-Le-Château. Currently, the land where has been localized, the vestiges of the church belong to individuals. Far from me the idea to want to annex the private property, but it would not be reasonable to find a compromise with the or the owners present of the considered ground? Such an initiative and such an update of these vestiges would make the Historic aspect of the Rennes-Le-Château history reinforce only, and would permit us, by the same opportunity, to understand the history of Bérenger Saunière better.
The realization of these excavations would allow us to know the true face of the ancient Rhédae. These works would be a godsend for the knowledge of the life of the high Middle Ages.
The scientific aspect of this gait would allow us to understand the incentive of the Wisigothses, except the strategic aspect of the places, to give such an importance in this city,
