The Journeys around
of Rennes-Le-Château
|
The region of Rennes-Le-Château is a very strange region where very strange priests lived.
To very little Rennes-Le-Château distance are the village of Coustaussa. Planted to custard of hill it dominates the road that drives to Arques and toward the Cathars castles.
It is by this same road that Simon De Montfort arrived. In three days he removed the castle.
Only some ruins of spectral aspect exist again nowadays, their silhouettes of flaps of jagged walls recall us the imposing mass of this strong place.
The history of this village is engraved in blood since several century.
The proof, to the same time where Bérenger Saunière exercised its ministry at Rennes-Le-Château, lived in Coustaussa abbot Antoine Gélis.
It was a worried shy man and seem him troubling. Opening his door to no one and few dispendieux, it seemed to live poorly.
Yet one evening he worked the door to a visitor. The following day he was discovered death murdered in the presbytery. Particularly horrible murder during which the poor vicar was tortured before returning his soul to God. The police wondered for a long time because the flight was not the mobile of the murder. On the other hand all lets to think that the murderer looked for something.
During the investigation the police discovered sums of incredible money, corresponding to several years of middle incomes of the time. No one can say of where came this money, as well as the police never found the murderer.
Abbot Antoine Gélis was buried in the cemetery of Coustaussa
